I was introduced to Barefoot Trimming while doing my EMT course. Whilst out in the field I quickly realised massage alone wasn't going to address some of the body issues that I was seeing as a result of poor hoof form, I wanted to rehabilitate these horses from the ground up. I attended some clinics with Equethy, Andrew Bowe and I am currently a student of TAFE Tasmania where I am doing the Cert III Equine hoof care. I have an ISH & TB that are both barefoot which have competed successfully in Dressage & Eventing but now they just enjoy pleasure riding and the occasional navigation ride. I enjoy educating people in the benefits of bare foot and just talking about hooves in general. |

I specialise in Equine Lameness Rehabilitation, but I also travel Australia wide to conduct clinics, seminars and workshops as a Hoofcare Coach to help horse owners and professionals to make the transition to barefoot performance trimming by training them to understand the principles of a "working trim", from basic maintenance trimming to professional level trimming and barehoof lameness rehabilitation. I am also an accredited Dressage Instructor, EFA Dressage Judge and Level IV Workplace Trainer and Assessor. Case studies: www.equinebarehoofcare.org/case_.html |
Cat Wyly Email: catwyly@iprimus.com.au |
Officer, Victoria will cover South East of Melbourne | Clinics with Margaret Van Riet and
Peter Laidley Assoc. Dip.Horse Management |
I began trimming my own horses in 2003, after my TB couldn't keep shoes on and had constant 'unsoundness' problems. He now happily trots down gravel roads, has completely changed body shape and is happy and sound. Since then I have had experience trimming a variety of horses and ponies of various breeds. My studies in Horse Management, years on studs, stables, competitions and natural horsemanship taught me a lot about hores. I am passionate about horses and barefoot and am willing to share my knowledge with others. |

I have previously studied with Jenny Lomas (AANHCP Field Instructor) in New Zealand, as well as clinics with Pete Ramey and Equethy. I provide hoof care services across Eastern Victoria, mainly Gippsland. I also provide boot sales, boot fitting and boot hire services for clients. I am currently working with horses rehabilitating from laminitis, navicular syndrome and long term shoeing. I also work with performance horses, particularly endurance horses. I compete in endurance on my own barefoot horses. |

Werribee to Diamond Valley areas, and Mornington Peninsula | Clinics with Martha Olivo (UHHG), Pete Ramey and Equethy Equine Science Certificate (current studies) |
I came to barefooting inadvertently. Endurance training and rides were leaving visible concussion marks on my horse's hooves. Shoeing them was making them boxy. I procrastinated for months until John Gorman turned up and finally pulled my metal shoes. That was terrible!! My horse couldn't walk across my driveway. He'd won his last endurance ride, and taken out the fittest horse award. I did a couple of Equethy courses, studied with Martha Olivo (UHHG) did two Pete Ramey clinics and started the American Association of Natural Hoof Care Professionals certification. I'm also completing an Equine Science Certificate via distance through the University of Guelph (Canada). I spent the next year conditioning my horse's hooves and now he can and does do endurance again, barefoot. |

Perth, WA | Brian Crane, Master Farrier, UK Clinics with Dr Strasser, Pete Ramey and Equethy Horse Physiology & Anatomy, TAFE (current studies) |
I studied hoof trimming basics with Brian Crane, a Master Farrier from England. It was actually Brian who told me that horses did not need shoes and sent me on my way to learning barefoot. I worked with him on my horses for 12 months. I had a brief encounter with Judy Mulholland who really got me going and filled in a few more pieces of the puzzle. Strasser was the first and although I liked the books etc, moved on to Pete Ramey and Jamie Jackson's style of trimming. It wasn't until I hosted the Equethy clinic here in August 2005 that all the missing bits of info were filled in. My initial cases were difficult shod to barefoot transitions, and the success of those transitions spurred me on to continue to better things. I started taking on founder cases and a few other more difficult Cushings cases too. I am studying horse physiology and anatomy this term at night TAFE. I am also developing new disposable pads for foundered horses, have written a few short articles for the AHCA and am doing research in the benefits of soaking contracted hooves before work in arid climates to assist horses with flexion. |

Clinics with Pete Ramey, Dr Alison MacIntosh, Equethy and Carola Adolf. | I've been trimming since 2005 and have been called ‘obsessed’ about horses hooves. I prefer the term ‘passionate’….. I’ve studied all the barefoot information I can get my hands on, from Strasser through to Jackson and in between.I have attended Barefoot Trimming workshops with Pete Ramey, Dr Alison MacIntosh, Equethy, Carola Adolf and will continue to do as many as possible. I am also in the very fortunate position of working in conjunction with Dr Melanie Quick on a number of difficult rehabilitation cases with excellent results so far. I carry a range of EasyCare boots and can fit them to your horse and teach you how to use them properly. I’m a member of the Australian Equine Barefoot Movement (AEBM) and the Australian Hoof Care Association (AHCA). I've been riding and handling horses for over 25 years, am a member of Lancemore EC & I compete mainly in dressage with the HRCAV on my barefoot horses. I train on a regular basis with the McLean's at the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre (AEBC). There are three horses in the paddock (two warmbloods & one thoroughbred), all of whom are barefoot and regularly get compliments on how great their feet look. My clients also get compliments on the condition of their horses’ hooves and they are very happy with the service I provide and how their horses are going. |

Certified Equine Myofunctional Therapist Clinics with Will Miller, Pete Ramey and Dr Alison Macintosh. |
I first started trimming and shoeing my endurance horses in mid-90s, then started trimming a few other's horses. I was taking care of my own horses' feet mainly for convenience, and wanting to be conversant with all aspects of horse care. I first got interested in barefoot seriously in late 2003, with discussions in endurance circles about people actually *doing* endurance on barefoot horses. I had met a successful barefoot endurance competitor, Darolyn Butler, in the UAE a few years previously, but I wasn't convinced at that time. After training at a Naked Horse (Will Miller) clinic in early 2004, I started applying barefoot principles to my own and client's horses with good results. Further training with Will, then with Pete Ramey as my trimming business grew steadily allowed me to sack my low-paying, exploitive part-time and casual work with horses to concentrate full-time on trimming. |

Sydney and Northern NSW | Clinics with Dan Guerrera, Pete Ramey and Andrew Bowe. | I have kept my five horses (3 Arabs, 1 Quarter Horse and 1 Thoroughbred) barefoot since 2002. I have done endurance rides on the Arabs barefoot and booted. I have attended clinics with Dan Guerrera from the US as well as Pete Ramey and Andrew Bowe. I am part of the Australian Hoof Care Association and the Aussiebarefoot chat list. I like to follow the Pete Ramey style of trimming. I got into having no shoes on my horses by way of using a Natural Balance shoe farrier who would not put shoes on my horses back hooves until new horn grew down. During this time I noticed how the hoof improved not having a shoe on it and the horse did not mind, so off came the fronts which drew my attention to how soft his front hooves had become from having shoes on. So onto the internet I went to find as much information as possible on how I could trim my own horses and still compete. Then came clinics and friends started converting and have had great success. Now I have turned it into a paying job, which I love. I have also completed my level one Parelli and I am now studying level two. |
| Marie-Louise Nieuwhof Mobile: 0400 593 173 Email: melita.nieuwhof@bigpond.com |
Northern Tasmania | Clinics with Marg Van Riet, PeterLaidley and Pete Ramey. | I have 30 years experience with horses, including starting under saddle and harness. In that time, I also learnt to “paddock trim” my own horses and then progress to shoeing. Today, I only apply the natural barefoot trim, which I have been studying and practising since 2004. My aim now is to build up clientele for barefoot trims and improve myself through ongoing study and clinics. |
